What Is Aquaponics?

Aquaponics is a sustainable food production system that combines the growing of fish and plants together in a closed recirculating system.  The fish are housed and fed in an appropriate tank and the water is circulated to growing areas for a very diverse crop of vegetables, herbs, flowers and other plants.  The plants, helped by beneficial bacteria, effectively clean the water by utilizing the nutrients excreted by the fish and the clean water is then recirculated to the fish. Very little land area, water or electricity is required to operate an aquaponics system.

All You Need To Grow

Fish + Plants = Food

Aquaponics is a way to grow fish and raise a garden in a closed system that easily fits in your yard. The fish waste flows through the grow bed of lava and is broken down from ammonia to a nitrate fertilizer by the microorganisms naturally living in the lava growing bed. The garden plants consume the nitrates. The system stays in balance. Just feed the fish.

EcoGro is the Aquaponics center of Arizona. We teach the techniques needed to be successful and support the  Aquaponics community by supplying the containers, fish, garden plants, lava grow bed material, pumps and, of course,  with our many years of experience.
